Ciate mani month day 11 (Bumble Bee)

Day 10
I knew there had to be another Caviar pearls soon and my prediction was only a day out. Behind door number 10 were the pearls in the shade Bumble Bee, and as you might expect from the name, the pearls are a combination of black and gold, and match perfectly with yesterday's shade Ladylike Luxe.

To apply, I simply applied a thin layer of polish and poured on the pearls. These are much nicer than the Prom Queen pearls since they don't contain any sequins and therefore there is no appearance of gaps in the nail. I decided not to apply a top coat on this occasion since I didn't want to dull the colour of the beads, which is what I found last time.

So far I am really liking the look of the caviar pearls and once this challenge is over I'm looking forward to rocking the look on all 10 fingers!

What do you think of the pearls, yay or nay?

Kiko stripes magnet (for magnetic polish)

I picked up a stripes nail magnet from Kiko for a bargain price of £2. I have so many nail polishes, including magnetic ones, and I loved that I could purchase this separately and use it with what I already own.

At least that’s what I was thinking. The magnet is flat and quite large, which should be a good thing, but this also makes it really difficult to hold steady.

I have no pictures to show of my nails because I found the whole process so frustrating and eventually I gave up and just painted my nails as usual. The magnets I own from Nails Inc and FashionistA all have ridges to help you position them across the nail, which makes it much easier to hold the magnet steady and at a good height to get the effect. Because the Kiko magnet is flat I really struggled to hold it close without touching my nails, and the times I did manage that I didn’t get an effect.

I am assuming it is all to do with the magnet design and that it is not actually faulty? I would love to hear from anyone who has tips on how to make this magnet work…..otherwise the new Barry M offerings are calling.

Thank you Truly Madly Beauty

I found a parcel on my bed this morning and knew instantly what it was, having entered a give-away on Truly Madly Beauty’s blogspot and won, I was anticipating its arrival.

First inside the parcel, 3 polishes by 17. Lilac storm, mint choc chip and orange soda. I can’t decide which of these I like more!

The main prize, a now unavailable holographic nail polish by GOSH.

How stunning is the holographic nail polish?! In my excitement I only tried it on the one nail but now I can’t stop staring at it, it almost looks surreal. I also love the colours of the other polishes also included, I don’t actually have any similar in my collection and I have never tried 17 polishes so I am looking forward to trying these out. In fact before this I had also never tried GOSH so I will definitely be checking out the rest of their range on my next shopping trip.

So THANK YOU so much to aysha from Truly Madly Beauty, to anyone unfamiliar, check out her blog, it’s fab! Receiving this package really made my day and got me excited about potentially doing my own contest/give-away in the future so someone gets to feel as good as me :-)

Thank you again

Crackle Nail Polishes

So I know I have featured my Barry M crackle polish twice now, but I really cannot praise these polishes enough. They look so effective and are such a fun way of adding nail art without paying to have it done or fiddling with small brushes, dotting tools etc.

So I was really excited to read that there will be a selection of colours coming soon, my only hope is that Barry M follow and provide me with my cheaper alternative. I am yet to spend £10 on a polish and I don’t intend to in the near future!

Nails of the week - Barry M

Having had interviews last week I opted for a classic french manicure, so this week though I wanted to take advantage of being able to have bold colours and nail designs opting for Barry M’s bright pink polish and nail effects on top. I have featured the nail effects before but it does look that much better over a brighter polish.

I have noticed that my nail effects polish is starting to get a little thick (mostly at the top of the bottle) so I am not sure what I can do to remedy that so as not to affect how it works. I have found to get the best result you need a thin layer of polish being careful not to overlap on the larger nails.

Barry M Nail Effects - Nails Refresh

So I decided I couldn’t have my nails looking all chipped and nasty for the new year but seen as it hadn’t been a week yet since changing my colour I didn’t want to remove it and re-paint and of course this saves time which is a bonus.

I painted Barry M’s nail effects on top of my existing nail polish, which worked really well in covering up the chipped parts of my polish and giving me a edgy nail look along with my silver/black smoky eyes.

I added a top coat to finish it all off which is needed for this since otherwise it leaves a matt looking effect. I was really pleased with the turnout. I love this polish and I hope Barry M have plans for a few more colours soon.

I hope all had a lovely New Years night, and wishing you a happy and successful 2011.
