Sleek Nude collection

I know there are already lots of posts with reviews and swatches of this palette and this is my take. When I first saw it both on blogs and in store I didn’t have a ‘got to have it’ moment the way I have with previous collections released this year.

I have too many nudes if anything so I didn’t really need to add this to the collection. What eventually swayed me was the number of matte shades there are available. Those of you who have read my blog for a while will know that for a period my go to palette was the NYX One night in Morocco, which contains matte smoky shades. I like to use a mix of matte and shimmer shades, particularly for daytime/work looks which are more subtle.

First Row:
L-R: Nougat (matte beige), Nubuck (light matte grey), Cappucino (matte cream), Honeycomb (matte yellow-beige), Toast (matte peach-beige), Taupe (light shimmery beige-brown-pink)

Second Row:
L-R: Conker (shimmery purple), Moss (shimmery olive green), Bark (matte dark grey-brown), Mineral Earth (deep shimmery brown), Regal (matte deep purple), Noir (matte black)

Lets get the Urban Decay Naked comparison out of the way since I remember seeing posts suggesting this may be a dupe. It's not! The Naked palette contains fewer nudes and the colours are much more pigmented.

The lighter shades in this palette aren’t very pigmented which is a shame considering the pigmentation in the other palettes has been flawless. That being said I predominantly use the top two shades on the right hand side and although they are subtle they are great for work and day looks since they are so natural.

The selection of dark colours means that it is really easy to turn a day look into a night time look really quickly if you are in a hurry. I took this with me for a business trip recently and it was perfect for exactly that reason. My only criticism is some shades translate very similarly on the eye as can see in the swatches.

I think the colours in the palette will lend themselves well to all skin tones, I think it is always good to have a selection of naturals, even to aid with looks containing brighter colours for blending purposes.

The suede blush of the collection has quickly become my favourite. It is a warm taupe matte shade which translates onto the cheeks to give a nice glow. The blush is not very pigmented, but being my first Sleek blush I am not sure if this is an exception since I seem to remember on swatching the last two collection colours, that they were very pigmented.

Completing the collection is a pout polish in the shade ‘bare minimum’. I feel it is very redundant to do reviews of these pout polishes since they are always the same: sheer colour, great moisturising feel. I do think this particular colour will work well on top of other nude/pink lipsticks.

I will be posting some looks with this soon. What do you think of the collection? If you are still undecided weather to pick it up, keep an eye out on my blog this week and might have something special for you ;-)

I’ve been shopping….

Just a little sneak peak post for whats coming up this week…….

I had such a fun time browsing Superdrug and managed to get my hands on two new Sleek palettes which I was really excited about. A sleek lip gloss, and the new L’Oreal glam shine gloss. I got the Bobby Brown-like bronzer/blush from the Famous by Sue Moxley range. On promotion I couldn’t turn it down.

Me Me Me Blush Rouge

I only own three blushes, an ELF blush and bronzer duo, Benefit Coralista and a pink Bourgeois one. I tend to reach for Coralista on a daily basis since I love everything about it, but I know it is not always suitable!

I have had my eye on MeMeMe blushes for a while, I have heard they are very similar to Benefit, the packaging is almost identical but they only have 4 shades, a bronze, pink, coral and peach shade. Each are beautiful, I love the bronze shade but I don’t know how often I could wear that and opted for the shade ‘rouge’. I am always nervous swatching products in stores since the lighting is so misleading. I assumed from the name rouge would be a red shade but it is actually more of a peach/orange tone. Although it is not a matte shade, it does not have a lot of shimmer and to me makes it more wearable daily than coralista. It is also more pigmented than I expected so only a light touch is needed and I imagine even with daily use this will last for a very long time.

Coralista above and Rouge below, both with blended and unblended swatch
Other blog posts have compared rouge as a potential dupe to coralista, which at first got me very worried that I had chosen the wrong thing! However, I do not think this at all. If anything MeMeMe’s coral shade may be more comparable although I have not looked at them together. Rouge is far more of a peach tone in my opinion while coralista is more shimmery and is more pink.

I am really pleased with my purchase, and would love to go back and pick up the other shades in the future. You can find MeMeMe in Superdrug and the blushes usually retail at £8.50, at the moment they are on promotion for £1.50 off making them £7 each.

Sleek Avoir la peche Paraguaya palette

I love eyeshadow palettes, in fact I have never brought a single eyeshadow, always opting for at least a trio so I don’t have the responsibility of putting colours together!

Although typically I am a dark/brown smokey eye look girl I was immediately drawn to this palette when I saw it at the Sleek stand in Superdrug.

Avoir la peche collection. Paraguaya.

A beautiful selection of peach, orange, coral and brown shades in both matte and shimmer finishes. I love the femininity of the peach shades and although there are a few more orange tone shades which I don’t see myself wearing, I hope that this palette will act as a first step in encourage me to go for bolder eye looks. Having done the swatches on my arm I think that most will suit my skin tone. I also think a few of these would look lovely as a blush and may even try to use it that way although the size of the pans will make that difficult. I imagine a lot of people think Sleek should make a blusher palette and I agree.

Accompanying the collection there was a beautiful peach ‘pout polish’ which was sold out at my local store, so I will be on the look out for that, and a blush which was more of an orange shade than a peach.

Bottom Row

As you can hopefully tell from the swatches above, the pigmentation of the shadows is great. I have never owned Sleek eyeshadows before and having now brought these I can see why they have had such great reviews. My only issue has been opening the palette, maybe I am just being to delicate with it since it is my new toy? Minor issue I know. The palette is limited edition so I would suggest getting to your closest Superdrug or ordering online if you are interested, at £6.49 for 12 shadows you will not be disappointed.

Makeover Time!

A virtual one that is! Sorry to be misleading if any of you thought you were going to see me looking dramatically different but I felt I had to blog about this since it was so much fun and also very clever.

I went to Superdrug today in Westfield and noticed that the Rimmel counter had a virtual mirror. This is the first time I have seen one of these virtual mirrors so I don’t know if they are new or only in larger stores. How they work is that after scanning a product and taking a picture of yourself, you then get your image with your chosen eyeshadow, blusher, lipstick, etc. You could then proceed to build up a whole look of different products and choose the level of intensity of each, making your look more subtle/natural or dramatic.

As you can hopefully understand me and my sister decided to be completely ridiculous with it and combine the most outrageous colours and combinations of products we could all on the dramatic setting. Having played around a bit, we then had a member of staff approach us and half expecting to be told off like teenagers messing around in the make-up aisle (which we were acting like to be fair) she told us that we could actually email the results to ourselves!! Classic.

Before I show you the result I think it is worth mentioning that this is actually a very clever idea and a very clever computer programme, the fact that an image can be taken, detect your eyes, lips etc and apply product accordingly is very impressive, you will see that I even had mascara added! You could also scan foundations, and after deliberately picking a dark one the programme actually recommended a more appropriate shade! One thing I did notice was that for the lipgloss, although we had picked a dark pink colour it looked more purple on me and the recommended shade of foundation (ivory) I can’t imagine would have been a good colour match. Whether the colours in the programme are accurate representations of the shades I could not say since I did not end up purchasing anything. However, for an overall idea of how a shade might look against your skin tone if you are trying it for the first time I think it would be really useful.

Ready for the make-over?

Ta-Da!! Hopefully this makes you laugh half as much as we did in the store doing it!
