Rimmel quad eyeshadow in smokey brun

This is an oldie but goodie eyeshadow palette that I pulled out the back of the cupboard and has led to a lot of compliments on my eye makeup when I have worn it.
Now I’m a bit confused about this palette, in store there is a product with the same name but that has been redesigned, but online this same look palette is available.

I had forgotten how good this palette is. The shades are great to wear on an every day basis and because they apply so smoothly and blend well, I can easily do a quick smokey eye look in under 5 minutes.
What is even more impressive is that without a primer and the shadow has lasted over 8 hours without creasing! Using a primer it lasts for around 12 hours.
In this pic I am also wearing the nude eyeliner I blogged about here!
I remember buying this as a student and I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have spent £6.99 on it. I think it is a little pricy for 4 eyeshadows, but as part of a 3 for 2 deal or another other offer it would be worth picking up. This would make a great gift for a newbie to makeup or as a handy sized palette for your bag, which is how I use it.

Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal in Nude

When white and pink eyeliner became the waterline trend I tried them and hated the look, rather than looking brightening the colours drew attention to my waterline and, in my opinion, looked odd.

But I still wanted to achieve that bright-eyed, awake look.

Cue Rimmel's scandaleyes eyeliner in nude.
Rimmel say that the scandaleyes liner range has long lasting shocking color intensity with an ultra smooth and creamy formula that glides on easily. Waterproof, smudge-proof, sweat-proof, heat-proof, humidity-proof and scandal-proof. It is dermatologist and ophthalmologist tested and is safe for sensitive eyes.

Nude from Rimmel is something I believe will suit medium to dark skin tones that want to achieve that brightening effect and that didn’t get on with white/pink eyeliner. The colour is a light peach-nude and the formulation is soft and creamy making it lovely to use on the waterline.
The wear is good, lasting at around 7 hours in the waterline before disappearing. Even though it is a waterproof formula I had no trouble removing it at the end of the night. This is a win from me and it means that these days I'm opting for nude eyeliner on my waterline during the day rather than black for a more natural/day friendly look.

The liner costs £3.99 and can be found in Boots, Superdrug and supermarkets with a Rimmel counter. I suggest waiting for a 3 for 2 offer and picking this up along with my holy grail black eyeliner, Rimmels exaggerate waterproof eye definer, and another product of your choice :-)

Of course you can choose any combo you like!  Let me know what yours would be.

Rimmel exaggerate waterproof eye definer

First off I have to thank my best friend for introducing me to this eyeliner, her eyeliner is always perfectly defined, dark black and stays in place all day and her secret..........Rimmel exaggerate waterproof eye definer.
I've worn this on both my upper and lower lash line and it has lasted me a whole day at work (applying at 8am and arriving home after 6pm).
With other eyeliners, I tend to find that after a few hours the eyeliner has gathered in my tear duct or spread onto my lower lid, which isn't very attractive! Although it does fade in the waterline after a about four hours, I have taken to applying it in between my lower lashes, very lightly and this does not budge for the whole day. Being a waterproof eyeliner, you might expect that it is more difficult to remove at the end of the day, but I haven’t found this to be the case. I use eye makeup remover before and after washing my face and this removes everything.
The packaging is simple and effective. On one end you have the eyeliner, which can be twisted to be revealed and on the other is a smudge sponge. I use the sponge to either correct any mistakes or to smudge out the liner for a smokey look. There is also a sharpener attached to the end of the sponge, which needs to be pulled out to be revealed. I prefer to wear my eyeliner thin, so being able to sharpen the eyeliner is a really nice feature.

I had said in my 'what I will and won't spend my money on' blog post that I would be willing to pay almost anything for an eyeliner that does not budge from my waterline. The fact that this does just that and costs £3.99 is just a lovely bonus. This can be found in all the usual places, Boots, Superdrug and even supermarkets that have Rimmel counters and of course it is made even more affordable when there are bonus points or 3 for 2 deals happening.

Rimmel Kate Moss matte collection shade 107

I do love the Rimmel Kate Moss lipsticks, and even though I never planned to be lured in by the matte selection one shade drew me in……..107.
The lipstick is a beautiful deep, almost plum, red. Now this is very, very adventurous for me. Generally I don’t feel that red lipsticks suit me, and a matte finish is a usually a no-go. However, I love this.
The lipstick is creamy to apply and not as drying as you might expect. It is not quite matte but has a slight sheen. I wore this to a wedding and Sunday lunch, and it lasted through dinner and beyond, only fading slightly. After a few hours my lips did feel a little dry but not uncomfortable. However, at this point it is as if the lipstick has set and you end up with a stain, which is what makes the colour last as long as it does.
I generally apply this with a brush to get the right definition around the lip line and because I am terrible at ending up with lipstick on the rim of my mouth and the colour bleeding.

I think this shade is suitable for a wide range of skin tones, it is very complimentary on olive skin and I can imagine that pale and darker skins would be able to pull off a great dark lip look.

At £5.49 this is very reasonable but as always I would recommend buying when there is an offer happening and because it is Rimmel it can be found in all the usual places.

Nails of the week: Rimmel Rose Libertine

I haven’t had a nail post for a few weeks having struggled with a new brand that chips before I’ve had a chance to take a picture…more on that in another post though.

So I decided to go back to a brand that hasn’t disappointed me so far.
Rose Libertine from Rimmel is a pretty, muted rose, pink shade. It is bright and summery without being garish, which makes it suitable for an office environment if you are someone who needs to be conscious of these things.

The polish dried pretty quickly, it doesn’t live up to the 60 second claim (or the one coat claim) and needed two coats to become opaque. It is also worth mentioning that I really like the brush, I have found it much easier to paint the edge of my nails without also painting my fingers too.

Four days on and there is only a slight bit of wear at the tips, which is perfect considering I always try to stretch my polish to last for a week.

Maleficent inspired look (using Sleek dark matte palette)

Have I told you all how much I love matte shades? I’m sure everyone is aware by now that Sleek have released two matte palettes. I picked up version 2, which is a perfect mix of dark shades, which can create subtle day or smoky night looks.

I decided not to do a review of the palette, since there are so many good reviews and swatches out there. But briefly, most of the colours are very pigmented and all are soft and easy to blend. So far it is my favourite palette by Sleek and unlike some of their other palettes, I don’t see myself not loving it as much in a few months time.

On to the look I created. Whenever I see deep, dark purple I think of Maleficent, the villain from Sleeping Beauty, she was my favourite Disney villain so I took my inspiration from her.
I used the shades thunder (as a base), highness (all over the lid), villan (in the crease) and flesh (to blend out and as a highlight). I used a grey eyeliner on my water line and on my upper lashes and finished off with Benefit’s They’re Real mascara. I think the look could be improved by using some false lashes to really dramatise the eyes.
On the rest of my face I used No7 BB cream and ELF concealer. On my cheeks I used MUA blush (shade 4), which is a beautiful plum colour and helps to bring out the plum tones in the lighter purple eyeshadow. I also added some highlighter (from the Sleek contour palette) and rather than go for a red lipstick to really emulate Maleficent I chose to wear Rimmel nude delight lipstick.

I’m hoping to put together a blog post containing lots of different looks, which can be achieved using the matte palette. In the mean time, tell me, who was your favourite Disney villain?

Nails of the week: Rimmel caramel cupcake

It is very rare that I wear remove nail polish only to reapply the same shade again. But that is exactly what  I have done with a new polish I picked up from Rimmel called “Caramel cupcake”.

I’ve gone off wearing colours on my nails recently, I think it is probably due to the lack of good weather the past two months, but at the same time I don’t like the look of my bare nails.

Caramel cupcake is a great nude shade, from a distance it almost blends in with my skin tone — I’m not quite sure if that is a good thing!

Unfortunately I don’t love the formulation of the polish, although it does dry very quickly — I didn’t test to see if it was actually 60 seconds — it does look slightly streaky and one coat doesn’t give the level of opacity that I like.

That being said I still love the colour and I am now on the look out for the perfect nude polish.

Quick review: Rimmel ScandalEyes mascara

Scandaleyes is the newest offering from Rimmel London and the first of their mascaras that I have tried. I like the packaging, and the shape and size of the brush is a plus point in my opinion, but that is where the positives end for me unfortunately.

I have found in the past it takes me a few uses of a mascara before I like it, but this has consistently given  a poor performance for me.

The mascara claims:

The brush picks up a lot of mascara but this does mean that you have to be careful applying your coats as your lashes can end up transferring mascara on to the rest of your eye area.

It does clump, even with one coat, and your lashes end up so sticky with mascara that it is hard to brush them through, which I have never had to do anyway with other mascaras anyway.

Definitely not one I would recommend picking up. I’m consoled by the fact that I picked it up with a 3 for 2 and this was the freebie! Considering I have never been too hard to please when it comes to mascara, I am surprised how much I dislike this, let me know what your worst mascara is, so I know what to avoid!

Rimmel - crystal mauve and Kate Moss 03

I have picked up two Rimmel lipsticks recently, shade 03 from the Kate Moss collection and crystal mauve from the moisture renew line.

Shade 03 was the only lipstick of the collection, which I thought would suit me and that I would actually wear. It is a little darker than the “nude delight,” which I have swatched and reviewed previously. For my skin tone I think this is a better nude colour for everyday wear, as I have noticed that nude delight, depending upon the rest of my makeup, can look too pale. The formulation of this lipstick actually feels more moisturising that the moisture renew range.

Crystal mauve is a subtle pinkish-purple, it translates more pink on the lips than I expected. It has a high shine but it isn’t too shimmery, even though the bullet appears as though it may be. The colour is very buildable, which makes this great for day or night wear. I would like to find a more purple toned lipstick but for now this great for a pop of colour without feeling too conscious of the shade.

I own three Rimmel lipsticks now and so far I am really impressed with all three, the colours are buildable, they are moisturising and as an added bonus I purchased them all with some sort of promotional deal making them great value for money.

Rimmel Nude Delight

I have searched a long time for the perfect nude lip colour. Shade have either been more of a pink or made me look dead they are so pale (ELF natural nymph!).

The shade nude delight by Rimmel has been one I have had my eye on for a long time. I had such a fear that it was going to end up another waste of money that I kept picking it up and putting it back again, but I finally took the plunge when Rimmel were offering a free black liquid eyeliner with any purchase (I don’t need one, I’m just a sucker for a deal).

It turns out it is the perfect nude! I was so glad when I finally tried it, this I know will become my favourite lipstick and it definitely my ‘my lips but better’ shade.

It’s not a very hydrating lipstick especially considering it is labelled as the moisture renew range, but I can forgive that considering how much I love the colour. It isn’t very long lasting either, but again, forgivable.

I think it was around £6.49, so a standard price for a drug store lipstick, but I think I would always hold out for some sort of offer rather than pay the full price!

Nails of the Week - Rimmel Portobello Pink

This week’s colour is portobello pink, a beautiful barbie-like pink colour with a shimmer finish. I love the colour and the formulation is perfect, spreading easily without streaking. The brush can cover the whole nail well, and you can easily get away with the one coat, although I always opt for two.

The only thing that’s not so good about it, is that it does not live up to the 60 second claim taking much longer than that. I even ended up with bed sheets annoyingly after going to bed thinking it was finally dry.

Nails of the Week - Rimmel Grape Sorbet

Grape sorbet is a beautiful dusty pink colour from Rimmel. I feel quite muted in my colour choices recently, I have had this polish a while and it has developed a thick consistency, ending up streaky when I applied it but still looks really pretty from afar! The polish was opaque in one coat and dried on the surface very quickly but stayed tacky for a little while after. I don’t tend to think much about polish matching my skin tone, but I can see that this one is very complimentary and looks lovely in the little bit of sunshine we have had!

My nail condition is slowly getting better using the OPI nail envy, and as a bonus my polish lasts that much longer chip free after applying a treatment coat every other day…….will have a full update soon!

Nails of the week x2 Feeling Blue

In keeping with my peach themed week I decided to go for ‘Apricot Punch' by Rimmel as this weeks nail polish choice.

From the same collection as last weeks cranberry zest, this is also a fruity polish. I love the colour, however, I had so much trouble with this polish that I just can’t find anything good to say about it in terms of finish. First of all it was extremely streaky even with three coats. I patiently waited for coats to dry in between application and even after that and thinking that my nails were dry I managed to smudge two nails and get an imprint on a third. I have never experienced this with a polish before, and cannot think of a reason why since I did wait for it to dry. It is such a shame since it is such a lovely colour but I can’t see myself picking this out of my collection again.

In the end, I decided to go back to Barry M and selected ‘Cyan Blue’, a deep sky blue colour it is just the sort of shade which matches the colour blocking trend this spring/summer. Standard to my experience with other Barry M polishes, two coats was perfect, no streaks and dried without smudging it. I have never worn all blue on my nails before, but I really like it.

I decided to go one step further and make the shade matte, with my matte magic china glaze top coat. Finally with the konad stamping kit and new stencil plate, I added a butterfly to my ring finger in white. I had always tried to repeat the pattern I was going for on each finger, getting frustrated when they weren’t all straight/even, so I really like the effect of having one print on a single finger.

Makeover Time!

A virtual one that is! Sorry to be misleading if any of you thought you were going to see me looking dramatically different but I felt I had to blog about this since it was so much fun and also very clever.

I went to Superdrug today in Westfield and noticed that the Rimmel counter had a virtual mirror. This is the first time I have seen one of these virtual mirrors so I don’t know if they are new or only in larger stores. How they work is that after scanning a product and taking a picture of yourself, you then get your image with your chosen eyeshadow, blusher, lipstick, etc. You could then proceed to build up a whole look of different products and choose the level of intensity of each, making your look more subtle/natural or dramatic.

As you can hopefully understand me and my sister decided to be completely ridiculous with it and combine the most outrageous colours and combinations of products we could all on the dramatic setting. Having played around a bit, we then had a member of staff approach us and half expecting to be told off like teenagers messing around in the make-up aisle (which we were acting like to be fair) she told us that we could actually email the results to ourselves!! Classic.

Before I show you the result I think it is worth mentioning that this is actually a very clever idea and a very clever computer programme, the fact that an image can be taken, detect your eyes, lips etc and apply product accordingly is very impressive, you will see that I even had mascara added! You could also scan foundations, and after deliberately picking a dark one the programme actually recommended a more appropriate shade! One thing I did notice was that for the lipgloss, although we had picked a dark pink colour it looked more purple on me and the recommended shade of foundation (ivory) I can’t imagine would have been a good colour match. Whether the colours in the programme are accurate representations of the shades I could not say since I did not end up purchasing anything. However, for an overall idea of how a shade might look against your skin tone if you are trying it for the first time I think it would be really useful.

Ready for the make-over?

Ta-Da!! Hopefully this makes you laugh half as much as we did in the store doing it!

Nails of the week- Rimmel Cranberry Zest

I wanted a summer vibe with my nails this week so went for ‘066 Cranberry Zest’ by Rimmel. I picked this up along with a peach/apricot colour last summer because they are very pretty colours but also because I needed to see if the advertised‘fruity scent once dry' was true.

Once dry there really is a fruity smell to it which is a nice gimmick! Although the addition of a top coat did dilute the smell. The colour is a red with a pink undertone (or the other way round, I’m not going to pretend I am good at describing this stuff!) Unusually the image I took with flash actually gave the truest colour. I needed two coats to get a good coverage, and the drying time was average. It did bubble up a little but I think that was down to my impatience with waiting for the coats to dry!
