Project 10 pan, take two

After being inspired by Addicted to OPI’s latest post, I decided to start my own project 10 pan choosing nearly empty products to give me that much needed motivation.

My mission to reduce my beauty stash is going well, I gave away a lot of makeup and skincare to Project Shoebox for Christmas, threw out old makeup and have steadily been making my way through skincare products, look out for an empties post this week.

Project 10 Pan complete!

So I have reached the end of my project 10 pan. It wasn’t easy and I am really glad it is over. I have learnt a lot from it and made a few decisions about the way I will spend from now on.

The holiday was the perfect time to you use the satin radiance moisturiser, it contains small gold shimmer which act to reflect light and gives the skin a subtle glow. I also finished off the Avon Ungaro perfume, Shashbox primer, Samy curl creme and the Bare Minerals night treatment, which proved itself to be huge value for money considering how long it has lasted.

You may consider it cheating but the only thing that was difficult to finish is the Bourgeois mineral radiance which I have now abandoned. The Witch concealer stick is almost done, so I will be placing an order with ELF today and take advantage of their 50% offer to stock up on my favourite concealer.

By doing the project 10 pan I have learnt that I am pretty good with my spending, and also that I don’t like thinking I can’t spend (who does, I hear you) but psychologically I found telling myself I couldn’t spend meant that I wanted too even more.

I’ve decided to just stick to my habit of using something then replacing it (which is especially the case for skin, hair and body products) and for makeup on the most part do the same for things like foundations, primers, concealers which the occasional indulgence in lipsticks, blushes etc. I want to do my best not buy for the sake of buying and enhance my collection rather than have multiple products of the same type (similar shades of lipstick for example).

I have also decided to set myself monthly goals/challenges for any products I feel are being forgotten or if they are close to being used, to finish them. I have mentioned this in a previous post and admittedly I failed miserably this month, partly because I forgot to take the ELF lipstick away with me on holiday.

For the month of September I have chosen Dove ‘hint of colour’ moisturiser, I was already half way through this before abandoning it last summer and hope that this will maintain my tan for a little longer. Just for this month I will include a second product and try again to use up the ELF ‘baby lips’ lipstick.

I would love to know if any of you have tried a project 10 pan and what you learnt from it.

July empties

This is a project 10 pan update along as well as some other items I have used up this month. I originally intended to keep all the empty containers until I had finished the project 10 pan, but even with only a small pile developing on my bathroom floor the urge to throw them into the recycling is too much!

Of the project 10 pan I have finished 4 of 10 items.

Tresseme heat protectant. I never liked this since it would leave my hair feeling sticky even with a liberal amount used so I am glad to be done with this.

Avon anew reversalist serum. I went through this whole bottle without having any strong thoughts about the product. It didn’t appear to do anything good for my skin but equally it didn’t do anything bad either. A lady commented in my first project 10 pan that this had done wonders for her so I suspect that it’s just not for my skin type or condition.

Blinc resurfa-a-stick. I have previously reviewed this. I liked the exfoliator and the idea of how to use but the reality made me feel like I was wasting what is an expensive product. I prefer the Soap and Glory “greatest scrub of all” which I am using now.

Avon anew eyeshadow. I was using this daily and can’t scrape any more out of the tube. I have also previously reviewed this. I need to find a new daily substitute now.

Of other items in my bathroom, I have used up my Organic Surge shampoo and conditioner and my Boots cleansing balm, again I have previously reviewed these.

Of my remaining project 10 pan items the Bourgeois mineral radiance still looks the same, but since I am going away soon I have a cheeky plan. I usually try to take half empty bottles or samples on holiday so that I can use them up and leave them behind, so I may just retire the blush after this trip.

I hope that by the end of August I will be done with the project 10 pan and that I would have used up enough other things to justify my growing list of wants!

I am considering picking a product each month which I will try to use more often just to make sure I get the best use out of everything I own. For the month of July I have chosen ELF liquid lipstick in babylips so please let me know if you would like to see an empties post each month.

Project 10 Pan

I’ve taken the scary decision to do a project 10 pan, for any not familiar with the idea, basically until I use up 10 chosen items I won’t be buying anything new.

Generally I consider myself to be good with my spending habits and how I use things, my last few hauls are not representative of my general shopping habits! I don’t tend to have more than one of a kind opened and in use (with the exception of face masks) and I like to use something up then move onto the next thing. I am mostly curious to see how long this will take as well as see how much I will get through with other things too in that time.

Aside for being good for my purse this will also free up space for a few items I have on my wish list which I will treat myself to at the end. Let me know if you would like to see a wish list post.

The 10 items are;

In picture order:
  • Tresemme heat protectant and Samy Joouge curl cream reviewed here. I still need to find my perfect hair care combination so I want to use up the remainder and give some new things a try.
  • Ungaro Fever perfume from Avon I am over half way through with this, and have been using it every day so I should finish it fairly quickly.
  • Bare Minerals night treatment, after my 2 month test I stopped using it, but for the sake of not wasting it I’m back to using it every night.
  • Resurf-a-stick microdermabrasion stick - again reviewed here, but I am actually looking to by a home microdermabrasion tool once the project 10 pan is over so this needs to get used up.
  • Smashbox primer - I am nearly done with this, although I really liked it in the beginning, I think it may be breaking me out when I use it, but I can’t be sure and I’m keen to start using the Witch primer which is meant to help with blemishes.
  • Witch concealer stick - I don’t like this, so I really want to use it up and go back to my ELF concealer.
  • Bourgeois mineral radiance - although I have used up so much already, to get to this stage has taken a year so of all the products I think this will be the hardest to use up!
  • Anew reversalist serum - this is not something I would have picked up usually but I won this in a Christmas hamper from Avon and have only just got round to using it. Will review soon!
  • Finally, Avon anew eyeshadow, mostly I am just bored of this, I featured it in my everyday makeup post and I have much better shadows I could use. Again I think this will be another which takes the longest time!
If you have a project 10 pan or plan on starting one, please feel free to post the link below and we can go through the process together! I’m very apprehensive about it, I know as soon as I place a limit on myself I will want something that much more, so I’m hoping it won’t be too hard! But considering my recent spending splurges they will hopefully be enough to contain me for a while.
