Bumble & Bumble Curl Conscious Range

I've never noticed the benefits of using a hair care range together until I used Bumble & Bumble's Curl Conscious products.

Including a shampoo, conditioner, hair masque, curl reviver and two curl creams, together the products provide soft and beautifully defined curls. The entire curl range smells gorgeous. I can't pinpoint the scent exactly but it is sweet and fresh at the same time.

Messy side bun, curly hair up-do

I've always worn my hair loose because I feel it suits me better but I really love nothing more than to have it in a high bun or a pony tail and out of my face.

So I decided to play with more up-dos, trying to achieve a style that includes my curls, suits my face shape, makes me feel feminine and at the same time is out of my face!

Essentially this is a side messy bun look. After using the Toni and Guy waver to get defined waves, I put in a side parting and brought my hair to one side twisting it loosely into a bun and letting the hair fall naturally.

Some spin pins and hair pins later and I was done.
I was really pleased with the outcome. With a bit more care the look could be much for polished looking for a formal event and I think the addition of a flower or other hair accessory would also make the look that much more fun.

What is your go to hairstyle, up or down?

Quick Review - Bed Head

TIJI Bed Head Foxy Curls shampoo and conditioner is another hair care range which excludes all the bad detergents and irritants contained in regular haircare products. Of the sulphate free, SLS free, not full of bad stuff hair care ranges I have tried this has been my favourite so far.

The shampoo has a very sweet and fruity scent which I love. Best of all it lathers up the most of all the natural products I have used which means it spreads well though the hair and makes me feel like I have had a really good clean. The conditioner doesn’t have as strong a scent but moisturises the hair well.

The product claims that (being for curly hair) it will reduce frizz and increase shine. In the time I have been using this I can’t say I have actually noticed these effects.

I managed to pick these up for £6.99 each in TK Maxx, which I know is quite sporadic with stock supply, so do not know how easy it would be to find these again.

Although this is the best of the hair products I have tried recently, part of me is not loving using the sulphate/SLS free products because although I know they are better for me in terms of toxin exposure, I don’t like how my hair feels and more importantly looks greasier so soon after washing.

Quick Review - Samy Big Curls Defining Cream

Another curly hair product review, after trying out the Samy Joouge curl creme I was keen to try out more of the range. Unlike the previous cream I reviewed, this can be used on wet hair for styling.

The bottle states that the creme amplifies curls adding volume, texture and shine and that it is formulated to define, separate and extend, to create frizz-free curls which keep their shape and last all day. The creme is also meant to help decrease breakage also and not add stiffness or weight to the hair.

I love this creme. What has most impressed me is the result I get when I was my hair in the morning and allow it to dry naturally (see pictures). Usually drying my hair this way gives me looser curls, I assume because of the weight of the hair, so I opt to wash my hair before bed and let it dry naturally while I am asleep, so there is no influence of gravity!  With this product, my hair felt so soft and the product left no residue or ‘crunch’. As you can hopefully tell from the pictures, my curls were well defined, with minimal frizz and good volume too.

The creme smells lovely, it reminds me mostly of orange peel. My only problem with the creme it is that it is too fluid, which was the same criticism I had of the Avon gel, so I don’t know if this is becoming more standard. I apply this the same way I would any other hair creme, rubbing a small amount in my palms and working through all my hair, and scrunching before leaving to dry. I make a point of not touching my hair if I can avoid it during the dying process, which also prevents it frizzing.
A 170ml bottle is £5.10 but I notice on the Superdrug website that there is a promotion for any two products in the range for £6.99.

Quick Review - Advance Techniques Curl Control Curl Defining Gel

The second of my quick reviews, I brought this on promotion for £2, having been pleased to find that Avon was finally doing a curly hair range!

Avon states; Lightweight gel serum that adds definition and bounce to curls and waves* (*Formulated to help protect hair against heat styling)
I have always preferred gels and creams to mouse and sprays since, I found the result to be that much better, with nicer, frizz free curls which hold for up to two days as long as I tie my hair up at night. This product is no exception, to use, after brushing through wet hair, you rub a little gel between your palms and scrunch throughout your hair.
The consistency is very fluid rather than gel like and just pours out of the tube, I have always ended up with more product than I wanted. When you rub between your palms though it does take on more of a gel feel and is easier to work with.

I like to let my hair dry naturally overnight, getting the results shown below. I then just use a little natural hold hairspray and find that the curls last for two days.

I have dropped it and the lid broke immediately, which was disappointing and even more annoying considering how fluid the gel is. When I let my hair dry naturally, it does dry a little more ‘crispy’ I expect because I apply more product than I would like.

The curl gel normally retails at £4.50 for 150ml, however considering the results I get with other products in the same price range, I wouldn’t repurchase this unless it was on promotion again. I like the idea that it is formulated to protect against heat styling (although I am not sure how I could test that claim!) and would like to see more products which double up as styling products and heat protectors.
